The street lights are colder than usual, how come I am so moved ? I feel the urge to escape, to make everything vanish for a while. netra's Melancolie Urbaine album is one of the most original metal albums to be released in a very long time and something that is truly unique. Many influences have been leading the writing process of netra including extreme metal, trip-hop, rock and blues. This album is an incredibly atmospheric journey to your innermost thoughts and nightmares and transcends the typical depressive black metal soundscapes. Raw guitar work, absolutely stunning ambience, powerful melodies, jazz-esque solos, and an atmosphere which has the capacity to drown you in a world of depressing urban landscapes. Released in a standard jewel case in an edition of 1000, this is one of the best albums of 2010 and is not to be missed for any fans of Shining, Manes, Katatonia, Bohren und der club of gore, or someone who is getting tired of depressive black metal bands going through the motions.

PRESS CLIPS netra unveil a dark post-rock space voyage which anxiously and frailly sways between winding lead guitar soloing and sickly black metal tones. -Metal Reviews This one man act from France has a very eclectic sound which shows he must be a very diverse listener as well. While it can easily be labeled as black metal, there are too many outside influences that deserve recognition as well, such as heavy blues influence in the melodies, Goth rock atmosphere and even trip-hop vocals. I really enjoy this because of how organic and non-gimmicky it sounds and I appreciate someone going out of the conventions of “what’s metal” to not only incorporate a sub-genre of hip-hop (and no, not throwing in party rap or Eminem like many mallcore bands do) but prove that it can be done tastefully. -The Werkshed a truly hypnotic combination of Alternative Rock and Doom Metal with a progressive edge to it; solo project from France that will release its debut album on HDR this year. -Pest Webzine In my honest opinion of everything I have heard this album is the best release of the 2010 year not only in metal music but music in general. There is never a dull moment and as mentioned this Quimpérois solo project did the unlikely and gave us an experiment that hits and truly breaks new ground for music in general, almost redefining the genre of black metal. -M.
