Marche Funèbre are a band which have demonstrated, particularly over their last two albums that they are capable of writing world class death-doom. This year has the Belgians returning to finally follow up ‘Into the Arms of Darkness’ their excellent 2017 album with their long awaited fourth album ‘Einderlicht’.

This has been an album which has been a slow process, but one worth the time and effort as what Marche Funèbre deliver with ‘Einderlicht’ is a heady mix of death-doom where the emphasis is placed heavily upon an accessible vocal performance and strong, memorable melodies that really show just how far this band have come since their debut album. Anyone who thinks this is a happy album needs to reassess their understanding of genres as what Marche Funèbre delve into here are six tracks exploring the thematic choices behind humanity’s ability to contemplate suicide. However, this is not delivered in a depressing manner, more through the medium of morbid curiosity as tracks such as ‘The Maelstrom Mute’ and the opening ‘Scarred’ have all the appeal of My Dying Bride, November’s Doom and Katatonia, whilst the epic ‘When All is Said’ manifests everything good about this genre and may be the best track Marche Funèbre have ever written.

As an album ‘Einderlicht’ is a large step forward in songwriting ability for Marche Funèbre and therefore this has all the hallmarks of a band continuing their purple patch.
