This month I had the great pleasure of reviewing two doom / death metal bands. The first one was the Greek IMMENSITY and now the Russian NEGATIVE VOICE, both released by Hypnotic Dirge Records. In their second album entitled "Cold Redrafted", they bring a refined and very elaborate sound. Led by Andrey "Obscurus" Samsonov (guitar), the band was founded in 2000 and remained active until 2004, having three demos released. After that per...

Eight songs fill this album, which has been released by Hypnotic Dirge Records and BadMoodMan Music. Negative Voice are from Moscow and somehow they incorporate Doom, Progressive Metal, Post-Metal, Death Metal, and Black Metal within this medley. From the very first song, ‘Limitation’, it's a musical dive into melodies, changing tempos and great creativity.

The band have not really labelled themselves to any genre or style and h...

Review from Absolute Zero Media

Well someone has come from the Black Emo Doom/ Avant metal realm and wanted to put there stamp on it as this reminds me of bands like  KLMT 1918, Katatonia, Antimatter, Daylight Dies, Moonspell and Paradise Lost. The band has a mastery of melancholy and despair in the music that they create. The gothic/ cold wave over tones white washed into the metallic style really make you feel the sorrow and pain in the music that Negative voice...

Review from Gorger's Metal

Russian Negative Voice is a band in the crossfire from many neighbouring genres.
Imagine a busy intersection where flickering headlights fly by while sun and moon chases each other rapidly across the screen in a time-lapse video.
In a small enclosure in the middle of this crossing, however, time passes slowly. There, Negative Voice performs their progressive form of dark doom.

With elements, partly of a technical nature, partly in mood, ...

Review from Merchants of Air

Let's get a bit more extreme, not necessarily faster but certainly darker and harsher. I'd like to turn your attention to the second album by Moscow (Russia) residents Negative Voice. It's an album that shows how a band can evolve, transcend genre-boundaries and reinvent whatever they do. It is presented as blackened doom metal, but there's so much more to this album and it's definitely worth your attention.

The album opens with the e...

Review from Dark Souls United

Negative Voice is a band from Moscow that shows a sound like a Russian Opeth: the songs are long, it follows one metric, and it relies heavily on the changes of phrases like a thousand sounds gathered together.

The track Limitation shows this kind of approach and it’s clearly a carbon copy of the Swedish act.

Even the timbres of the guitars are Opeth-esque as shown in the track City Of Decaying Gaze with clean vocals and harsh vocal...

Review from Keep the Metal Flowing

Here's an interesting band: Russia's Negative Voice. They merge different extreme metal genres flawlessly, with a melodic flare that keeps the music very balanced and dynamic, and isn't merely blasting for 30 or 40 minutes (not that there's a thing wrong with that). From what their Facebook page says they're a four piece, and they just released their sophomore album, "Cold Redrafted" via Hypnotic Dirge Records. I've been listen...

Review from Five Albums / Chris Nee

Released next Monday, Cold Redrafted is the second full-length album by Moscow band Negative Voice. They're specialists in blackened, death-infused doom metal, and, if this record's anything to go by, there's a real progressive attitude behind a brand of beautifully played metal that respects no boundary. This is a thoroughly enjoyable second outing. The album ends with 'Draft Life', which rumbles along with a thickness of inte...
